Dance Audition FAQ

Q. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY DANCE AUDITION PHOTO SHOOT?

A. Dress should be clean, presentable and appropriate for the style of dance. When choosing attire pick a solid color that you feel like represents you best. Tutus for solos may be worn where appropriate. Items of clothing such as longer skirts, baggy clothing, leg-warmers etc should be avoided as they may give the appearance of attempting to hide or disguise physique, even if not intentional.

My skill as a Professional Dance Photographer and knowledge of aesthetics, technique and qualities required for dance will ensure that all photographs taken during your shoot will show you at your very best.

Q. CAN YOU PHOTOSHOP MY LEG TO MAKE IT LOOK HIGHER?

A. No. All editing of Dance Audition Photo Shoot images is strictly limited to skin-retouching, hair tidying and other minor adjustments (i.e. holes in shoes, loose ribbons, and other minor imperfections) Any editing of physical characteristics, such as artificially increasing extensions and other digital manipulations of the image is not permitted.

Q. CAN YOU PHOTOSHOP MY LEG FROM ANOTHER IMAGE AS MY KNEE WASN'T STRAIGHT?

A. No. Composite images (multi-layered images consisting of two or more separate images combined together) are not permitted for any Dance Audition Photographs. Post-editing of images other than re-sizing by anyone other than myself is not permitted and would be breaking Copyright Law as well as the Terms and Conditions we agreed upon under which the images were taken.

Q. CAN YOU PHOTOSHOP ME TO LOOK THINNER/FATTER/TALLER ETC?

A. No. You want to be realistic with your photos. The places you are auditioning for will see you as you are that day.

My skill as a Professional Dance Photographer and knowledge of aesthetics, technique and qualities required for dance will ensure that all images taken during your photoshoot will show you at your very best. 'Photoshopping' and other editing / re-touching techniques will only be used to clean skin, tidy hair and to correct other minor imperfections.

Q. I HAVE SPOTS ON MY FACE THAT I AM WORRIED WILL RUIN THE IMAGES. WILL YOU EDIT THEM OUT?

A. Yes. I will remove temporary blemishes, marks and bruises etc as much as possible so that skin appears clean and healthy. If you are worried about the appearance of skin, teeth, hair or anything else that concerns you, please feel free to contact me to discuss.

Q. HOW MUCH MAKE-UP SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY DANCE AUDITION PHOTO SHOOT?

A. Make-up should be light, fresh and a natural everyday make-up. Too heavy a foundation or eye make-up is not recommended under studio lighting and is not necessary for Dance Audition Photographs.

Using a 'Cover-Up' to conceal blemishes should be applied sparingly, as extensive use can make the editing/re-touching of blemishes problematic. (Most cover-up products are designed for daylight / interior lighting situations so may appear very different under studio lighting)

Q. WHO ELSE WILL SEE MY GALLERY?

A. You are allow to send your gallery to anyone you choose. I will only be sending these images to you.

Q. WHY IS THERE WRITING OVER MY GALLERY IMAGES?

A. Any image displayed online is at potential risk of theft and/or misuse. Watermarks on images are unfortunately necessary to protect both the photographer and client.

Q. I CAN'T SEE THE IMAGE PROPERLY AS THE WATERMARK IS OBSTRUCTING MY FACE. CAN YOU REMOVE IT?

A. Any image displayed online unfortunately requires protection with a Watermark. However I will move/adjust Watermarks accordingly if they are impeding your image selection.

Q. I THOUGHT THAT MORE IMAGES WERE TAKEN AT MY PHOTO SHOOT? CAN I SEE THEM?
A. No. All images displayed in your gallery are the best images that were taken during your shoot. When creating your gallery I will remove all images that are obvious mistakes, technically poor or exact duplicates. This leaves only the strongest images remaining. Even if two images appear the same in your gallery, there is usually a slight but noticeable difference between them.

Q. WHERE SHOULD I KEEP MY JPG DIGITAL IMAGES THAT YOU HAVE SENT ME?
A. Like any important digital files and information, your JPG digital images should ideally be kept in more than one location. To protect yourself against loss I suggest storing your JPG digital images in at least three separate places, for example:

1. On a laptop
2. On iCloud Drive or an external hard drive
3. On a google drive or like system

IMPORTANT: CDs & DVDs are NOT recommended as a long term storage solution due to the instability.

Q. CAN YOU HELP ME TO CHANGE THE SIZE OF MY DIGITAL IMAGES?
A. Yes. I will supply you with full-size, high-resolution digital images in JPG format. However, if you need help adjusting the size of your JPG digital images please contact me.

Do remember that whilst JPG digital images will reduce in size extremely well, reversing the procedure and attempting to enlarge a JPG digital image from a reduced one will result in a poor quality image. The JPG image format was created for its ability to reduce the overall size of an image file by throwing away 'unnecessary' information. However once discarded, this information is permanently lost and cannot be retrieved.

Q. I HAVE LOST SOME/ALL THE JPG DIGITAL IMAGES THAT YOU SENT ME. DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM AGAIN?
A. No. Once a client has paid for JPG digital images I will replace them free of charge if they are lost, damaged or deleted. All images are safely stored in my image libraries indefinitely and can be easily re-sent if necessary.

Q. WILL YOU HELP ME TO CHOOSE MY DIGITAL IMAGES?
A. Yes. I will offer you any advice that you require to choose your JPG digital images in the strictest confidence.
