ASHLEY LORRAINE

In Defense of Crying in Public

If I lay bare who I am in the sea of strangers

let them see me as a portrait of a building on fire

a shapeless body absorbing water

Single eye crying into the ocean.

water

so overwhelming in its presence

you are it

you need it

you can be over filled by it

undefiled by its absence

here I am again forgetting to care

suffocating on my own

an ocean in my throat

in the canals of my cheekbones

let them see you. you unencumbered by nothing
